New Artist Statement:
My work is are about my transitioning body and the static relationship with my family in and outside of a space. I define space as the immediate felt, both physical and emotional.

For this series, I am exploring the physical environment of an ideal home.  I am interested in showing the issues and intricacies in a living space through the depictions of collaged interiors. By stitching canvas together, I begin to mend the distance between body and family. This is a symbolic effort to merge my current life with the one I have left behind. The paintings present the complications of defining spaces of home, gender, and body.

There's not a lot going on except being in the studio when I'm able. Graduate school requires papers and tests to be finished and passed. I'm working on getting back into journaling because that feeds into how I'm seeing my work. I don't see it as self narrative which is different. I'm wondering more what a transitioning body or painting looks like. I have some idea. These are the sticky notes posted around my studio this week:

Exploration of language
When are these finished?
What does my transition look like?
Are these personal narratives?
Formal approach/decisions or How am I getting viewer there?

Weekly Reflection 9/3

In reflecting on my work and it's direction following the studio visit this week, I've had a few thoughts. No cloud-parting revelations or anything like that, but I think some things clarified in my mind that need to be expressed. First of all, I've come to realize that I've built quite a barrier in between my work and myself. My paintings are all about thoughts, not feelings - there's no depth or personal investment. This is something I do subconsciously in my relationships, which is ironic considering a large theme in my work is having a real human connection with people. I certainly have no lack of emotional experiences to draw from in my work, and I think that's the problem. Vulnerability is scary. Midterm_Artist Statement

The paintings are about my transitioning body and the static relationship with my family in and outside of a "living" space.   The paintings are an attempt to mend the distance between these two parties. This is both a symbolic effort to merge my life with the one I have left behind. I am looking for a balance for these themes and how they reflect in my paintings.

conclusion

+ ask hard questions of yourself. answering them, you might need to sacrifice things which are hard to lose. + art production sometimes is just a labor. you work hard and think that it should be improved with practice. practice makes perfect. but, THINK more, do less sometimes is the answer. + you think that you think a lot. but the reality is that you are only an over-thinker. over-thinking means labor-thinking. no efficient result. a frustrating process. an obstacle. a hinder which prevents you from moving. + listen. think. learn. but simultaneously act. do them. do what you learned and what you heard. + trust your emotions. it is another motive existed in you. sometimes do something based on your emotion. + break the habits. forget. start.
